Origin: American comedian George Jessel (active between 1920s-1950s) claimed he invented the cocktail using only Vodka and Tomato Juice to recover from a night of heavy drinking; he even went on to appear in Smirnoff ads in the ‘50s introducing himself as “I, George Jessel invented the Bloody Mary.” However, it was then discovered that a head bartender at St. Regis New York’s King Cole bar, Fernand Petriot, had been serving the concoction under the name ‘Red Snapper’ since the ‘40s, inspired from his time at Harry’s Bar in Paris during the 1920s. As a conclusion, the cocktail is now a combination of the two men’s recipes, and the Bloody Mary of today is made of…
Ingredients: Vodka, Tomato Juice, Pepper, Cayenne and Worcestershire Sauce (or Tabasco sauce)
